Furniture Care - Proper Kitchen Storage

Your brand-new kitchen looked so spacious and open, three years ago. Now you are navigating tightly packed cabinets, plunging your hands into cluttered drawers, and lamenting a lack of storage space to house all your appliances and save some valuable counter space. Luckily, our team of kitchen experts over at Fino have put their heads together and come up with some great tips to help you squeeze out as much space as possible from your kitchen in the planning stages.

Whilst first-time buyers might come in with less experience of what they want, everyone has been in a kitchen before and has an idea of what works for them and what does not. At Fino, we have heard all the complaints about old kitchens having a lack of storage, flimsy drawers which begin to warp and jam when overloaded, and getting down on your hands and knees to dive into the back of the cupboard for a hidden colander.

That is why our team can guide you through the kitchen journey to build a kitchen that works for you.

Measure Twice, Cut Once. The first thing to consider is the room dimensions. When it comes to kitchens, it is not a one-size-fits-all. Kitchens should be catered to the available space, with made-to-measure units which span from floor to ceiling. This will ensure you are using every part of your room while having the added benefit of giving the kitchen layout a satisfying tone as every cabinet and cupboard fits snugly together.

Built To Last. Kitchens typically see the most use of any room in the home. Cabinets and drawers can be opened several times a day, and therefore need to be reliable, hard-wearing, and ergonomically designed. We recommend considering load-bearing drawers, such as the ones provided by our Italian supplier Veneta Cucine, which have a capacity of 30kg and have been tested for 100,000 open/close cycles. Dampening and soft-closing hinges should also be a consideration, extending the lifespan and comfort of your kitchen considerably for years to come.

Finding Space. Most kitchens never appear quite big enough to store every pot and pan, but a lot of space can be won back from vertical gaps and clever use of modern homebuilding gadgets. To save those otherwise wasted corners and vertical spaces, consider looking into pull-out shelving, such as our Magic Corner, which allows you to operate stacked shelves which slide easily in and out of a cupboard and ensure that everything is both easily within reach and efficiently stored away. A full-height pantry is probably one of the best ways to save space in the kitchen, so consider a pull-out pantry or even a double-doored pull-out column, storing away your spices and jars neatly and making full use of your floor-to-ceiling layout. With the most cutting-edge in kitchen technology at our fingertips, we could even recommend a fully stocked kitchen preparation area, which folds itself away into a neat and discreet full-length wardrobe after use.
